Much of the wildlife and plant life in the Amazon Rainforest is threatened by illegal animal poaching and smuggling and illegal deforestation. Volunteer in the jungle of Peru to help aid in the conservation and protection of the victims of these destructive industries!

You will work on 120 hectares of privately-owned forest - the researcher/biologist who owns the land is focused on protecting threatened species, particularly the vast variety of rare and endangered butterflies that can be found in the region.

Aside from protecting the existing flora and fauna, the project aims to aid in reforestation, education of volunteers and the surrounding community, and data collection for scientists and biologists.

Typical project work includes:

  • Assisting in the reforestation of the area, including weed control around planted trees.
  • Creating and maintaining new ways to observe and research the flora and fauna.
  • Planting and harvesting of organic vegetables and exotic fruits for the self-sufficiency of the project participants.
  • Collecting seeds and plants, and sowing and caring for new seedlings.
  • Taking inventories of macroinvertebrates on the Hospital River.
  • Monitoring and taking inventories of butterflies, insects, reptiles, amphibians, birds and other wildlife (monkeys, snakes, caimans, etc.).
  • Species identification & classification (entomological surveillance).
  • General maintenance work of the project site and cooking with fellow volunteers.
  • Project monitoring and reporting.
  • Assisting in educating the local community and visitors about the project's goals.

Join NGO Taxi in ensuring that the precious animal and plant species of the Amazon Rainforest are protected for generations to come!
